01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the heart of MacGregor, QLD, That Viet Place is a culinary gem bringing authentic Vietnamese and Asian fusion flavors to Brisbane's vibrant dining scene. This restaurant dazzles with a menu that honours traditional Vietnamese staples while offering unique twists that reflect the passion and care of its new ownership. From the moment you step inside, the warm, inviting atmosphere combined with friendly service sets the perfect stage for a memorable meal.

The cuisine here is a celebration of Vietnamese comfort food, with standout dishes that are as visually enticing as they are flavorful. Food lovers will delight in the Combination Broken Rice (Cơm Tấm), particularly the Double Pork Chop option, which boasts tender, savory chops paired with a perfectly fried egg and subtle, smoky meatloaf – a true balance of textures and flavors for just A$21. For those craving something packed with aromatic zest, the Lemongrass or Satay Chicken grilled to perfection delivers layers of rich, fragrant spices, while the Crispy Skin Chicken offers a satisfying crunch that contrasts beautifully with its juicy interior.

Seafood enthusiasts will appreciate the Grilled Prawn, where each succulent prawn is expertly charred and served with a fragrant bed of fresh greens, priced at A$25. The menu also creatively incorporates unique dishes like the Vietnamese Macaroni Stir-Fry (Pasta Nui Xào), featuring grilled beef drenched in a tangy tomato sauce and a golden fried egg that adds indulgence and depth. This dish is a heartwarming fusion that surprises and delights the palate.

True pho aficionados should not miss the robustly flavored Special Beef Pho, a deeply nourishing broth simmered to perfection with rare beef, brisket, and beef balls, confidently priced at A$22. The spicy Chilli Beef Noodle Soup introduces a fiery kick balanced by tender pork and thick noodles, igniting the senses with each soulful spoonful. These noodle dishes showcase That Viet Place’s dedication to traditional broth craft with a modern, comforting twist.

Patrons consistently praise the genuine hospitality and authenticity of the food. Long-time customer Robert Fitzgerald highlights the “Crispy Skin Chicken dry egg noodles” as a crave-worthy dish that he thinks about often — a testament to the restaurant’s ability to create lasting impressions through food. Another reviewer, Piano, beautifully captures the essence of the experience: the secret lies in cooking “just like… for her own family,” delivering an authenticity that transports diners straight to Vietnam.

While one reviewer did mention a minor hiccup with a stray hair during their visit, the overwhelming feedback celebrates the warm, attentive service and innovative menu that stands out from typical Vietnamese fare. From first-time diners discovering the excitement of “beef roll” spring rolls to returning customers cherishing familiar favorites, That Viet Place holds a beloved spot in the community.

Whether you are in the mood for a comforting bowl of pho, a hearty plate of broken rice, or bold Asian fusion dishes, That Viet Place promises an immersive dining experience where every bite tells a story of tradition, family, and passion. Good food and friendly staff. We came on a day that was relatively quiet so the service was super quick. We tried something new with the beef roll - kinda like a spring roll that you make yourself. It was super exciting and tasty and I would recommend it. Only issue is there was a hair in the food. We also got the chicken vermicelli noodle and the pho. Both dishes were good. I guess we just personally prefer crispier chicken but that’s no issues. I’d recommend coming here and would be happy to try it again :)

That Viêt Place is my all time favourite and only Vietnamese restaurant I visit on a frequent basis, the staff are very kind and accomodating to all of my requests and dietary requirements for my partner and their food is absolutely amazing. I always get the Crispy Skin Chicken dry egg noodles. This is my absolute favourite dish and I think about it all the time. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, they even remember your order after a few times!!

I've been here for 10 years in Australia, and honestly, this is the best Vietnamese food I've had! The new owner bought this shop for just a year and a half and she nailed it. She actually told me that her secret is cooking for customers just like she would for her own family, and it really shows. The food is authentic, delicious, and genuinely like what you'd get in Vietnam. Highly recommend it
